I am of a certain age where yearly visits to the Earls Court Motor Show were planned months in advance with my long-suffering father. I looked forward to this annual event with excitement levels only a car-mad youngster could reach. Such vivid memories: I drooled over Aston Martin V8s, Maserati Khamsins and Porsche 911s, got hot under the collar catching sight of the Vauxhall Firenza HP and Ford Escort RS 2000, and came home weighed down with every brochure available to add to my collection.
Fast-forward several decades and Earls Court is replaced by Goodwood, membership to the GRRC and many happy, spellbinding visits to the Revival with my son. Inevitably, that thirst for older cars is the same now as it was when I was wingmirror-high to a Cortina.
Having learned to drive in a 1970s Mini 1000 I could only dream and be in awe of my rally heroes in their Fords, Lancias and Saabs, throwing them around the forest and gravel stages of the World Rally Championships.
I have bought and sold numerous cars over the years, favourites being Alfa Alfetta GTVs and Porsche 911s of various types. Like you, I am now appreciating cars from the 80s and 90s which are becoming a less common sight on our roads, and upon which we look back with fond memories and lots of nostalgia.
