Alfa Romeo started with the production of its six-cylinder engine in 1925, but it was not introduced to the market until 1927. They continuously improved the technology of its engines. The six-cylinder engine was a great success in the thirties. Three chassis were delivered to the company ‘Carrozzeria Touring’, each chassis fitted with the strongest engine. The company had to design and to build a special body for the ‘Mille Miglia’. Due to the World War 2 the event was cancelled. Instead, Alfa Romeo took part in a long-distance race in North Africa. This success led Alfa Romeo competing in the annual long-distance race ‘24 heures du Mans”.
