1970 Camaro SS 396 – American Muscle – 6.6 big block with 450 bhp
£27,995
Big block 6.6 litre V8 engine with high performance aluminium heads, Holley carbs and an Edelbrock manifold, mated to a TH400 automatic gearbox with an incredible exhaust soundtrack.

The 2nd generation Camaro hit the roads 1970 and was quickly dubbed the ‘super hugger’ due to its new road hugging stance. A vast improvement on the earlier cars it boasted a wider track, lower body and a new suspension; a true Muscle car, combining dramatic fastback styling with big block power.

This rare example is one of just 600 L78-code SS 396 cars produced in 1970, the first year for these iconic cars, and has been subject to significant maintenance and mechanical upgrades.

Chassis Number 124870L503366 was built in Chevy’s LA plant and delivered new to Las Vegas in 1970, the comprehensive recent history file shows that it was bought in 1991 by British Actor Nicholas Ball (you might recognise him from Hazell, Footballers Wives, Heartbeat & Eastenders) whilst living in California for 3 years. The Camaro returned to the UK with him in 2000 following a re-spray and Connolly hide re-trim and was featured in the programme Car Cruzin with Mr Ball in 2005.

Sold in 2010 to the 2nd UK owner, he commissioned a significant overhaul of the big block V8 and TH400 gearbox with AC Motors “American V8 Motors” at a cost of £9,700 in 2011. The result, as evidenced on the dyno sheet, is a very impressive 450 bhp, additionally a new double stainless steel exhaust was fitted with front boxes deleted to ensure easy passage over our UK speed bumps. Harris Coachworks of Bedfordshire then conducted a bodywork refresh in 2012 as well as paying attention to the electrics and fitting a replacement radiator.
Just 1,000 miles later it moved to the 3rd, and latest, UK owner in 2021.
Enjoying a modest 4,000 miles in the SS he carried out routine maintenance work including starter motor, ignition switch, dashboard circuit board cluster, instruments, air-conditioning and gearbox sump seal etc. spending circa £3,500 on these further improvements. For the finishing touch he also returned the Camaro to it’s period correct OEM wheels.
A rare American muscle car with well documented & extensive expenditure and attention over the thirty years of British custodianship, along with an interesting TV and ownership history.

A true Classic American Muscle Car, this looks, drives & sounds incredible – not for the faint hearted!
